Tim Allen Reunites with ‘Home Improvement’ Star Richard Karn in New Series ‘Assembly Required’

Home Improvement stars Tim Allen and Richard Karn are re-teaming up for another project—but this time, they’re taking on the wacky world of reality TV.

Last night, the pair’s all-new show, Assembly Required, premiered on History Channel. Although there’s only one episode (at least for now), there’s no denying that it features the comedy duo at their best.

Assembly Required documents talented builders as they reconstruct everyday items in their home workshops. The goal of the competition series is to push the contestants to their limits in an attempt to determine who’s capable of rising above his/her fellow competitors. In each episode, Allen and Karn also educate viewers on the history of each item, along with the techniques used by the builders.

The first episode of Assembly Required is now available for streaming on History.com, but it requires a cable login. No credentials? No problem. The show

Allen and Karn, who both star in the series and serve as executive producers, will also discuss the items’ histories, techniques used, and original crafters in every episode.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight ahead of the show’s premiere, the duo reflected on sharing the screen again, 22 years after their beloved ABC sitcom came to an end.

“All of us are real close,” said Allen, 67. “I still see Richard way too much, boy, way too much.”

“It just doesn’t feel

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere episode of Home Improvement, and the show’s stars are marking the occasion with a fairly wonderful new project. Tim Allen and former co-star Richard Karn have reunited for a new reality show, and the pair are looking back at what it’s like to share the screen once again.

“All of us are real close,” Allen told ET’s Nischelle Turner. “I still see Richard way too much, boy, way too much.”

“It just doesn’t feel like 30 years,” Karn added.

Allen and Karn spoke with ET on the set of their new workshop reality competition, Assembly Required, in which talented makers and DIYers from across the country compete head-to-head in at-home building competitions.

With both stars back on a set that looks like a tool-lover’s Valhalla, the show feels like a real-life version of their fictional show-within-a-show, Tool Time,

Tim Allen and Richard Karn Say ‘Assembly Required’ Feels Like a Real-Life Version of ‘Tool Time’

Thirty years after their television debut together on the long-running ABC sitcom Home Improvement, Tim Allen and Richard Karn are reuniting on the History Channel’s all-new workshop reality competition, Assembly Required. For the co-stars, working on the series sometimes felt like the real-life version of Tool Town, the show-within-a-show co-hosted by Allen and Karn’s characters, Timothy “Tim” Taylor and Albert “Al” Borland.

At times, Assembly Required was like a “live version of Tool Town,” Karn said during the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2021 Press Tour, with Allen adding that the pair would sometimes revert back “exactly like we were in Tool Time. It’s an amazing extension of that relationship.”

On the 10-part reality series, Allen and Karn are joined by woodworking do-it-yourself YouTube star April Wilkerson as the “best and brightest makers from across the country” compete head-to-head in at-home building competitions. Each episode they
